Understanding Cancer Research Study Design

Understanding Cancer Research Study Design – For years, scientists and doctor have been conducting researches and studies to find more effective ways to treat or even prevent cancer. Researchers are able to design the studies in various ways based on the questions they need to answer. Although there’s no perfect study design, it’s important for us to know what they actually have designed. In general, there are two main types of research study:

1. Observational Study
This study requires people who are going to be placed in observing groups, expecting specific result with natural setting. The result of the study will include whether a specific group of volunteers have more cancer diagnoses than any other groups. The researchers are unable to control any intervention, like someone’s weight or whether or not a volunteer taking any supplements. There are four types of observational study:
• Cohort Studies
Prospective studies where researchers are monitoring groups of volunteer for some periods while tracking something. This kind of study has been done a lot to on many online gambling players in for different kind of purpose, the real chance of winning.
• Case-control Studies
Researchers’ job is to compare two of selected volunteer groups
• Cross-sectional Studies
Researchers’ job is to examine how a disease can find a way to make interact with many elements in some periods of time.
• Case Series and Case Reports
Researchers’ main task is to focus on more details in the medical history of the patients.

2. Experimental Studies
Just like its name, experimental study will provide intervention. This type of study will help researchers to learn more about how cancer occurs and spreads. Using this study, researchers will also be able to explore about life issues quality and imaging new techniques test. There are three types of experimental study:
• Open/no-blind Trial
In this study, both researchers and volunteers know who belongs to every test group. This type of test is used when a blinded test is impossible to be done. For example, this study need to compare a drug to a surgical treatment.
• Single-blind Randomized Trial
In this test, only researchers who know whether they belong to control group or treatment group, while the volunteers have no idea.
• Double-blind Randomized Trial
Most doctors and scientists believe that this type of test is able to produce the most relevant results for the study. Neither the researchers nor the volunteers know who belongs to control group or treatment group until the end of the study.

Looking at how scientists and doctors conduct this study, we can say that they have tried their best to fight and prevent cancer. Now it’s our job too to fight and prevent cancer.
